MATCH REPORT : EJA   29/01/12

Barking 3-3 Bhfc AET (Lost 3-2 on pens)

Hill played Barking in their first semi final  in the EJA and the game was played on their main stadium pitch which was good test for the boys on a big flat  pitch . Hill totally dominated the first 20 minutes and passed the ball with real authority .Unfortunately too many times this season we’ve had alot of possession in games without transfering this into goals. The boys were told to play the ball quickly but too many times the ball in the final 3rd wasn’t good enough or we shot straight at the excellent Barking keeper .The break through finally came when Jake powered through the middle and drove a rasping shot into the top right corner of the net .Muti had numerous chances but was either just wide or thwarted by the Barking keeper .Barking were reduced to just 2 chances .A free kick saved by Ben and a comfortable save to his left  from a shot from outside the area . 2nd half and the pressure was back on Barking but either selfish play or choosing the wrong pass cost us . Finally 15 minutes into the second half a corner was only half cleared and George was on hand to stab the ball home . Hill then had countless chances to make the game safe but chose the wrong option or shot straight at the keeper. Barking then started to get a foothold back in the game and were given too much time and space to pass the ball. A ball over the top was misjudged by the defence trying to play a dangerous offside game and the quick Barking striker ran through on goal to score . Hill then started to panic on the ball and gave away possession too many times when told to pass the ball quickly . We lost it out on the left flank and Barking quickly moved the ball foward . Another ball over the top was not picked up but Cameron managed to get goalside and cover the threat albeit for the Barking player to get a weak shot away . Ben failed to hold the shot and within the space of 5 mad second half minutes Hill had thrown away a 2 goal  lead. The last ten minutes was a nervy end to end affair with no side wishing to concede the certain match winner .Both sides had chances to win it but the ref  blew the whistle for full time. Extra time and it was Barking who took the initiative when again we lost the ball upfield as we aren’t coming short  to get inside the Barking defence .The ball was played to a Barking midfielder who far too easily brushed aside the challenges in centre mid and drove ontowards goal .the back 4 backed off and he unleashed a powerful shot past Josh giving Barking a lead that looked impossible some 20 minutes previous . Hill tried to get back in the game but every shot was either straight at the keeper or we tried to take too many players on .when the ball is played out wide we have to get the ball in the box earlier rather than trying to take on 3 players at a time .the first half of extra time finished and Hill went for broke making 3 changes and going 3 at the back . Hill threw everything foward and the equaliser finally came 2 minutes from time .barking failed to clear their lines and Charlie stroked the ball home from just inside the area . The game finshed and the dreaded penalty shoot out was upon us . Hill went first and Charlie cooly slotted his into the bottom right hand corner . Barking scored theirs to make it one each .hill and barking both missed their next 2 . up next was Dan who smahed his to the keepers right and Barking followed up scoring theirs . So with the last penalty to come up stepped Dylan .he struck a right foot shot firmly to the keepers right but it came off the inside off the post, hit the keeper on the head and bounced the wrong side of the post .You knew was was coming next and Barking’s last penalty taker made no mistake giving Josh no chance and send them into the final after a great fightback. Hill hopefully will learn from this defeat and realise that they have to listen to instructions and not hit the panic button as soon as Barking got back into the game . The number of times we got caught in possession was poor and the amount of chances we have created our return on chances just simply isnt good enough at this level. No matter who you play in this EJA whether its first or last in the league your in for a competative game . mw
