Buckhurst Hill Football Club are pleased to announce that the u14a team have have WON the Eastern Junior Alliance Challenge Cup Final, out of teams from Essex, Herfordshire, Nolfolk and Suffolk. The lads in blue and black were crowned CHAMPIONS. Well done lads, Buckhurst Hill FC are very proud of you. EJA Cup Final- CHAMPIONS – Match Report Buckhurst Hill U14A 1 Redbridge 0 This was another titanic tussle between these two local teams. The previous games this season had been close with Redbridge just edging it overall but the final was to prove their nemesis. The first half saw Hill pinning Redbridge back in their own half with their attacking passing game. The defence of Lewis, Ladyman, Ryan, Kemp and Ward worked very hard to snuff out the Redbridge attacks and then smoothly distributed the ball out to midfielders O’Connor, Fuller and Meade who had the edge over their counterparts. After 15 minutes a superb piece of individual skill from Maltese saw him turn the Redbridge defender inside out. This made enough room for a surgically precise shot in to the bottom left corner to make it 1-0. The excellent Redbridge goalie did not even move a muscle. Great goal- magic foot work. A Fuller corner saw a Redbridge defender hand ball on the line – but to the disbelief of all the spectators the referee waived play on. An Osmond run through the middle towards goal saw the last defender trip him but again no free kick. A typical Louch twisting and turning run ended with a shot zipping just wide. Meade and O’Connor were playing excellently in midfield with great feet and great passing vision. But the Hill supporters club were wandering if these mishaps would come back to haunt us ? Half time came and the Hill were deservedly 1-0 up. The second half saw what can only be described as a truly epic defensive performance from the Hill defence. Every defender played their best game of the season. Captain Kemp stood strong and Ryan beavered away behind sweeping up anything over the top. Ladyman on the right defended fantastically against a very good Redbridge winger and still made time to get some further exercise via his overlapping. Ward tackled and headed expertly and Shelmardine and then Bradley both made excellent timely interceptions. O’Connor and Burgess supplemented the defenders with good work in front of the back four. At times this looked like the Battle of Britain on a football pitch with Redbridge launching their trade mark long ball in to the Hill half on countless occasions only for each attack to be manfully repelled. On the few occasions Hill attacked they looked increasingly threatening and actually had more clear cut chances to increase the score than Redbridge. A tribute to our quick, thoughtful , inciseful football. Lewis in goal had more magical moments with fearless dives at attackers feet, top notch flying two handed catches on either side and excellent authority in or around the 6 yard box. The spirit of the team was personified in one example – Ladyman chasing down the Redbridge goalies clearance and blocking the kick up field. This on the edge of the Redbridge penalty box and from our right back and with only 10 minutes to go. Additionally our captain Kemp just refused to be defeated and was our Churchill when the battle got white hot. The referee blew for full time and the Hill had won a fantastic game 1-0- much to the jubilation of the spectators Full Time 1-0 We would like to thank our opponents for giving us a great game- and hope the Redbridge goalkeeper who went off towards the end of the game after an accidental clash of heads is ok. Our thanks also to the referee and linesman. It’s not easy doing these jobs but without them there is no game. And lastly a very big thank you to our 3 musketeer managers – Maltese, Fuller and Ward who have worked tirelessly over a very long season to bring more silverware to the boys. A very big thank you from all the Mums Dads, Grandads and Grandmas, Uncles , Aunts and siblings. Redbridge 0 – Buckhurst Hill FC 1 (Maltese)
